The Value of Active Recovery

Rest days do not always mean doing nothing. Active recovery can help your body recover while keeping you moving.

When most people think about recovery, they think about doing nothing. Sometimes full rest is exactly what the body needs. Other times, light activity can actually help you recover faster. That is where active recovery comes in.

Active recovery is simple. Instead of another hard workout, you do something light that gets the body moving. It could be walking, light cardio, mobility work, or a very easy lift. The goal is not to push intensity. The goal is to promote blood flow and keep the body loose.

I have found that on certain rest days, a short walk or light movement makes a big difference. Muscles feel less stiff and the next training session usually feels better. It also keeps the habit of movement going without adding fatigue.

Training hard is important, but recovery is part of the process. Sometimes the best thing you can do for progress is slow down for a day and let your body reset.
