Atlas Stone Trainer
The Atlas Stone Trainer is a strongman implement designed to simulate parts of an Atlas Stone lift without requiring a concrete stone. The movement takes the load from the floor, onto the thighs, and then upward against the chest. The lower back, glutes, hamstrings, quadriceps, arms, and grip all contribute.
Training context
Before adding the Atlas Stone Trainer
This exercise is useful for practicing the stages of a stone lift, including the initial pull, the lap, and the final extension. The trainer may also be easier to load in small increments than a fixed-weight stone.
Because the implement is awkward and the grip differs from a normal barbell lift, begin conservatively. Make sure the loading area is clear and that the plates or trainer components are secured before starting.
Technique overview
Control the lap before standing
Straddle the implement, wrap your arms around it, and pull it close as you extend the hips and knees. Once it clears the knees, sit back and settle the load onto the thighs. Reposition your grip, pull it high against the chest, and stand by extending the hips and knees. Avoid rushing the transition from the floor directly into the final stand.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
