Barbell Squat To A Bench
The Barbell Squat to a Bench uses a bench or box behind the lifter as a depth reference. The quadriceps, glutes, hamstrings, calves, and lower back work together as you lower toward the support and stand. Depending on the method, the bench may be touched lightly rather than used for a full seated pause.
Training context
Muscles worked by the Barbell Squat to a Bench
The quadriceps provide much of the effort as the knees bend and straighten. The glutes and hamstrings assist at the hips, while the calves and lower back help maintain balance and bar position.
Bench height determines the target depth. Choose a height that allows you to reach the support without dropping onto it or changing your stance to search for the bench.
Technique overview
Touch the bench without collapsing
Set the bench directly behind your stance and confirm its position before unracking. Lower with control until the hips make light contact, then drive through the feet to stand. Keep your body braced and avoid relaxing onto the bench, rocking backward, or bouncing from the support.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
