Box Squat with Bands
The Box Squat with Bands combines a box squat with band resistance attached to the bar. The bands become more stretched as you stand, increasing resistance toward the top. The quadriceps, glutes, hamstrings, hip muscles, calves, and lower back all contribute.
Training context
How bands change the Box Squat
Band tension is lower near the box and greater near the top of the squat. This places additional demand on maintaining speed and position as the hips and knees extend.
Both bands must use equal tension and secure anchors. Improvised dumbbell anchors can move when they are too light or poorly positioned, creating a serious imbalance.
Technique overview
Check every anchor before unracking
Attach the bands evenly and confirm that the rack, pegs, or weighted anchors cannot move. Set the box and stance before unracking. Descend under control, make stable contact with the box, and stand without bouncing. Rerack carefully because the bands continue pulling downward at the top.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
