Exercise guide

Brachialis-SMR

Brachialis SMR is a self-massage position for the outer portion of the upper arm. The arm rests against a foam roller while body weight creates pressure through the area near the biceps and brachialis. The position is usually held rather than rolled through a large distance.

Training context

Setup cues for Brachialis SMR

Place the roller against the soft tissue of the outer upper arm rather than directly under the shoulder or elbow joint. Support part of your weight through the legs and opposite arm so the pressure can be adjusted.

The area may be sensitive, so begin with less pressure than you think you need. Sharp, electric, or radiating sensations are not the goal.

Technique overview

Use only manageable pressure

Lie on your side with the outer upper arm resting on the roller. Lift or shift the hips only enough to create mild pressure and hold for 10 to 30 seconds. Breathe normally and move off the roller slowly. Repeat on the other side without forcing both arms to feel identical.

Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
