Cable Lying Triceps Extension
The Cable Lying Triceps Extension is performed on a flat bench with a straight bar attached to a low pulley. The upper arms remain above the torso while the elbows bend and straighten. Continuous cable tension keeps the triceps working during both the lowering and lifting phases.
Training context
Benefits of the Cable Lying Triceps Extension
The movement provides a triceps-extension pattern similar to a lying skull crusher while maintaining cable resistance throughout the repetition. The bench supports the torso and helps make the upper-arm position easier to repeat.
Getting the bar into position can be awkward. A training partner can hand over the attachment after you are lying securely on the bench.
Technique overview
Keep the upper arms nearly vertical
Begin with the bar above your torso and your elbows pointing upward. Bend the elbows to lower the bar toward the forehead without allowing the upper arms to drift backward. Stop just before contact, then straighten the elbows to return. Use a load you can control without flaring the elbows or pulling the shoulders from the bench.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
