Cable Step-Back Lunge
The Cable Step-Back Lunge adds cable resistance to a reverse-lunge pattern. The quadriceps, glutes, and hamstrings lower and raise the body while one leg steps behind. The cable may be held at the chest or beside the body depending on the attachment and pulley position.
Training context
How is the Cable Step-Back Lunge different?
The cable creates a horizontal pull that changes the balance demands compared with a dumbbell or bodyweight lunge. Facing the pulley may provide assistance or resistance depending on the direction and attachment.
Use the same distance from the machine and the same handle position for each set. The cable should not cross the feet during the step.
Technique overview
Keep the front foot planted
Stand tall with the attachment secure and step one leg directly backward. Lower through both knees while keeping the front foot flat and the torso controlled. Push through the front leg to return. Avoid allowing the cable to pull the body forward or changing the step length as fatigue increases.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
