Exercise guide
Close-Grip EZ-Bar Press
The Close-Grip EZ-Bar Press is a flat-bench pressing exercise that emphasizes the triceps. The chest and shoulders assist as the bar lowers toward the lower chest and returns above the torso. The angled bar can provide a more comfortable wrist position than a straight bar.
Training context
Before adding the Close-Grip EZ-Bar Press
Confirm that the EZ-bar can be safely unracked and reracked from the selected bench position. Some curl bars are too short for a standard bench rack and may require a partner to hand the bar over.
Use the inner angled grips only when they allow the wrists and elbows to remain comfortable. An extremely narrow grip is unnecessary.
Technique overview
Keep the elbows beneath the wrists
Lie securely with the bar held above the torso. Lower toward the lower chest while keeping the elbows reasonably close and the wrists supported by the angled grip. Press upward until the arms are extended without forcefully locking the elbows. Use assistance for setup when the bar cannot be safely taken from a rack.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
