Exercise guide
Dips - Triceps Version
The Triceps Dip is a parallel-bar exercise performed with the torso kept relatively upright. The triceps provide the main pressing force while the chest and shoulders assist. Compared with a chest-focused dip, the elbows remain closer to the body and the forward lean is reduced.
Training context
Muscles worked by Triceps Dips
The triceps straighten the elbows as the body rises between the bars. The shoulders and chest help control the bottom position and support the press.
Assistance can be provided with a machine or band when full bodyweight repetitions cannot remain controlled. Depth should be reduced if the shoulders feel strained.
Technique overview
Keep the torso upright as you lower
Begin supported above the bars with the shoulders controlled. Lower slowly while keeping the torso tall and elbows close to the sides. Stop at a comfortable depth, then press back to the top without swinging the legs. Avoid forcing the elbows into a hard lockout.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
