Exercise guide
Dumbbell Alternate Bicep Curl
The Alternating Dumbbell Curl trains one arm at a time while the opposite dumbbell remains at the side. Each repetition begins with a neutral hand position and transitions toward an underhand grip as the weight rises. The biceps perform the curl while the forearms control the rotation and grip.
Training context
Why alternate the dumbbell curls?
Alternating sides allows attention to remain on one arm at a time and may make differences in strength or control easier to notice. It also gives each arm a brief rest while the other side works.
The rotation should occur smoothly through the forearm. Avoid twisting abruptly at the wrist or allowing the elbow to move forward.
Technique overview
Rotate as the dumbbell rises
Stand tall with the palms facing the thighs. Curl one dumbbell while gradually turning the palm forward, keeping the upper arm beside the torso. Lower under control while returning to the neutral grip. Alternate sides without leaning or swinging the resting dumbbell.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
