Exercise guide
Dumbbell Floor Press
The Dumbbell Floor Press is a pressing exercise performed while lying directly on the floor. The upper arms contact the ground at the bottom, limiting shoulder extension compared with a bench press. The triceps receive strong emphasis while the chest and shoulders assist.
Training context
Benefits of the Dumbbell Floor Press
The floor creates a clear bottom position and removes the deepest portion of a normal bench press. This can make the movement useful for triceps-focused pressing and for lifters who prefer a shorter shoulder range.
Elbow position can be adjusted slightly, but the upper arms should not slam into the floor. Pause after making gentle contact.
Technique overview
Pause when the upper arms reach the floor
Lie with the feet planted or legs extended and begin with the dumbbells above the chest. Lower until the backs of the upper arms contact the floor evenly. Pause without relaxing the shoulders, then press upward. Keep the wrists stacked and avoid bouncing the elbows from the ground.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
