Exercise guide
Elevated Back Lunge
The Elevated Back Lunge is a barbell reverse lunge performed while standing on a short platform. Stepping to the floor increases the available downward range compared with beginning at ground level. The quadriceps, glutes, and hamstrings control the descent and return.
Training context
Who may use the Elevated Back Lunge?
This is an advanced lunge variation for lifters who already control regular reverse lunges with a barbell. The platform creates additional range and makes balance more demanding.
The platform must be wide, stable, and low enough that the athlete can step backward without searching for the floor. Touching the knee down is optional and should not require collapsing into the bottom.
Technique overview
Know where the floor is before stepping back
Unrack the bar and stand securely near the center of the platform. Step one foot backward to the floor and lower through a controlled range. Push through the elevated foot to return fully onto the platform. Regain balance before alternating sides.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
