EZ-Bar Skullcrusher

The EZ-Bar Skullcrusher is a lying triceps extension performed on a flat bench. The elbows bend to lower the bar near the head and then straighten to return it above the torso. The angled bar may provide a more comfortable wrist position than a straight bar.

Training context

Who May Find the EZ-Bar Skullcrusher Useful?

This exercise may suit lifters who want direct triceps work with both arms moving one bar. It can be used after pressing exercises or as part of a dedicated arm session.

The name should not encourage lowering the bar carelessly toward the face. Many lifters prefer a path slightly behind the forehead or toward the top of the head for additional clearance.

Technique overview

Control the bar near the head

Lie securely with the bar above the shoulders and hands placed evenly on the angled grip. Bend the elbows while keeping the upper arms controlled. Lower through a range that keeps the wrists and elbows comfortable, then extend the elbows to return. Never bounce or change direction abruptly near the head.

Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
