Heaving Snatch Balance
The Heaving Snatch Balance begins with the bar across the back of the shoulders. A short dip and drive unload the bar while the athlete quickly descends underneath it and receives it overhead in a squat. The drill develops confidence, speed, and stability in the snatch catch.
Training context
What Is the Heaving Snatch Balance?
The upward leg drive gives the bar enough lift for the athlete to move underneath it. Unlike a full push press, the goal is not to press the bar high before descending, but to connect the drive directly to the overhead squat catch.
Use an empty bar or light load until the receiving position is stable. Adequate shoulder mobility and overhead squat control are required.
Technique overview
Drive briefly, then descend under the bar
Start with a wide snatch grip and the bar secure across the upper back. Dip vertically, extend the legs, and immediately push under as the arms lock overhead. Receive the bar in a balanced squat with active shoulders. Stand fully before returning the bar safely to the rack or shoulders.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
