Incline Barbell Triceps Extension
The Incline Barbell Triceps Extension is performed while supported against an inclined bench. The bar begins above or slightly behind the head, lowers as the elbows bend, and returns through triceps extension. The forearms support and guide the bar.
Training context
Why Use an Incline Triceps Extension?
The incline changes the relationship between the upper arms and torso, allowing the triceps to work from a position that differs from a flat-bench skullcrusher. The bar may travel behind the head rather than directly toward the forehead.
A straight bar can place significant demand on the wrists. An EZ-bar may be a more comfortable alternative while preserving the same basic movement.
Technique overview
Keep the upper arms pointed overhead
Set the bench securely and establish an even grip before lying back. Bend the elbows to lower the bar behind the head without allowing the upper arms to drift widely. Stop at a comfortable stretch, then extend the elbows to return. Use a spotter or rack when entering and leaving the position with a heavier bar.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
