Kettlebell Step-Ups
Kettlebell Step-Ups add external load to a single-leg stepping movement. The quadriceps and glutes of the lead leg raise the body onto the platform, while the hamstrings and calves assist with control and balance.
Training context
Who May Find Kettlebell Step-Ups Useful?
Step-Ups can suit lifters who want unilateral leg work without the same stance used in lunges. Platform height can be adjusted to match mobility and strength.
The box should be low enough that the entire lead foot can remain planted and the athlete can stand without pushing excessively from the trailing leg.
Technique overview
Let the lead leg perform the step
Hold the kettlebells securely and place the whole lead foot on the platform. Drive through that foot to stand, bringing the trailing leg up only after the body rises. Step down slowly and maintain control until both feet are stable. Keep the box from sliding or tipping.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
