Kipping Muscle Up
The Kipping Muscle-Up is an advanced ring skill that uses a controlled swing to help the athlete pull above the rings, transition the torso forward, and finish with a dip. The lats, back, arms, shoulders, grip, and abdominals all contribute.
Training context
Who Should Use the Kipping Muscle-Up?
This movement is appropriate only after the athlete has developed strong pull-ups, ring dips, support holds, and control of the kip swing. The false grip and transition should be practiced separately before full repetitions.
Uncontrolled kipping places substantial stress on the shoulders and elbows. Rings and attachment points must be rated, even, and high enough for the complete movement.
Technique overview
Connect the swing to a high pull and transition
Begin in a secure false grip and establish a controlled hollow-to-arch swing. Use the forward swing to pull the rings toward the chest and armpits, then move the shoulders over the hands. Stabilize before pressing through the dip. Lower through the transition with control rather than dropping from the top.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
