Landmine Squat

The Landmine Squat holds the end of an anchored barbell near the chest while the athlete lowers into a squat. The quadriceps provide the main effort, with the glutes and hamstrings assisting. The angled bar can act as a counterbalance and encourage an upright torso.

Training context

Who May Find the Landmine Squat Useful?

The variation may suit lifters who want a front-loaded squat without supporting a bar across the shoulders. It can also provide a progression toward other squat patterns when balance is a limitation.

Stand far enough from the anchor that the bar remains comfortably in front of the chest throughout the repetition. The plates and bar end must remain secure.

Technique overview

Squat beneath the supported bar end

Hold the end of the bar against or just in front of the chest. Plant the feet and lower between them while allowing the knees to travel naturally. Reach a comfortable depth, then drive through the full feet to stand. Keep the bar close and avoid leaning heavily into it.

Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
