Exercise guide
Lat Pulldown
The Lat Pulldown is a cable exercise that pulls a bar from overhead toward the upper chest. The lats provide the main effort, while the biceps and middle back assist with elbow flexion and shoulder-blade control.
Training context
Before Adding Lat Pulldowns
Adjust the thigh pad so the legs remain secure without being compressed uncomfortably. The grip should be wide enough for a comfortable pull, but an excessively wide grip may shorten the available range.
The bar should travel in front of the body. Pulling behind the neck is unnecessary and may place the shoulders in an uncomfortable position.
Technique overview
Drive the elbows toward the floor
Sit tall with the thighs secured and arms extended overhead. Begin by drawing the shoulder blades down, then pull the elbows toward the sides of the torso as the bar approaches the upper chest. Pause without leaning far backward, and return the bar slowly until the arms extend again.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
