Exercise guide
Lying Machine Squat
The Lying Machine Squat uses a guided platform and shoulder supports while the athlete moves between a bent-knee and extended-leg position. The quadriceps provide the main effort, with assistance from the glutes, hamstrings, and calves.
Training context
Keeping the Lying Machine Squat Controlled
Machine designs vary, so the manufacturer's entry, safety, and adjustment instructions should take priority. The source's knees-behind-toes rule is not universally valid, and pressing only through the balls of the feet may reduce stability.
Use full-foot pressure and allow the knees to follow the toes naturally. Depth should be limited by control, comfort, and the ability to keep the back and shoulders supported.
Technique overview
Maintain full-foot pressure on the platform
Position the feet securely and settle the back and shoulders against the machine. Extend the hips and knees to move the platform without snapping into lockout. Lower until the deepest controlled position is reached while the heels remain planted. Use the handles and safety system as designed.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
