Lying Supine Dumbbell Curl
The Lying Supine Dumbbell Curl places the upper arms slightly behind the torso while the athlete lies face up. This position lengthens the biceps near the bottom and removes most opportunity to swing the body.
Training context
Who May Find Supine Dumbbell Curls Useful?
The variation may suit lifters who want a strict curl with the shoulders supported and the upper arms held behind the torso. It requires enough bench height and shoulder mobility for the arms to hang comfortably.
Do not force the arms toward the floor. Use only the depth that keeps the shoulders comfortable and the dumbbells clear of surrounding equipment.
Technique overview
Keep the upper arms fixed beside the bench
Lie face up and lower the extended arms beside the bench until a comfortable starting position is reached. Curl the dumbbells while rotating from a neutral grip toward palms-up. Keep the upper arms still, pause briefly, and lower slowly while reversing the rotation.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
