Exercise guide
Lying Triceps Press
The Lying Triceps Press is a skull-crusher-style elbow extension performed with an EZ-bar or straight bar. The triceps control the descent and straighten the elbows to return the bar above the shoulders.
Training context
Using the Lying Triceps Press Safely
The source instructs lifting the bar from the floor behind the head, which can be awkward and unsafe. A spotter, rack, or controlled handoff is a better way to enter and leave the exercise.
The bar does not need to touch the forehead. Stop slightly above it or lower behind the head if that path is comfortable and intentionally selected.
Technique overview
Keep the upper arms steady as the elbows bend
Begin with the bar held securely above the shoulders. Bend the elbows to lower it toward a controlled stopping point while the upper arms remain mostly still. Extend the elbows to return the bar without allowing it to drift toward the face. Use a spotter when unracking and reracking.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
