Exercise guide

Overhead Triceps

The Overhead Triceps stretch uses a bent-elbow overhead position and partner resistance. The triceps are the main target, with the lat and surrounding shoulder tissues also affected.

Training context

Keeping the Partner Stretch Controlled

Partner pressure should remain gentle and should never force the elbow or shoulder into pain. The athlete being stretched should decide when the range is sufficient.

Agree on a clear stop signal and avoid pushing directly against the elbow joint. A towel-assisted solo version may be easier to control.

Technique overview

Add pressure only after the arm fully relaxes

Sit upright with one arm overhead and the elbow bent. Attempt to straighten the elbow lightly while the partner prevents movement. Relax, then allow a small increase in the bent-elbow position through gentle wrist guidance. Release slowly and repeat on the opposite side.

Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
