Exercise guide

Pendulum Squat Machine

The Pendulum Squat Machine guides the body through an arcing squat path while supporting the torso. The quadriceps provide much of the effort, with the glutes, hamstrings, and calves assisting.

Training context

Keeping Pendulum Squats Controlled

Machine designs vary, so shoulder-pad height, foot position, safety catches, and starting depth must be adjusted before loading heavily. The feet should remain planted throughout the arc.

A deep squat is useful only when the hips, knees, and lower back remain comfortable against the machine. Use the depth the individual machine and athlete can control.

Technique overview

Follow the machine path without losing foot pressure

Set the shoulders beneath the pads and place the feet securely on the platform. Release the safety, bend the knees and hips, and lower while the back remains supported. Drive through the full feet to rise and reengage the safety mechanism after the final repetition.

Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
