Exercise guide

Pullups

Pull-Ups are a bodyweight vertical pulling exercise led by the lats, with the biceps and middle back assisting. The body moves toward a fixed overhead bar while the grip and trunk keep the movement controlled.

Training context

Benefits of Pull-Ups

Pull-ups train the back and arms without requiring a weight stack or barbell. Grip width can change comfort and range, but extremely wide positions are not automatically more effective.

The chest does not need to touch the bar for every repetition. Use the highest position that can be reached without excessive swinging, neck extension, or shoulder discomfort.

Technique overview

Pull the elbows down and control the descent

Hang from the bar with a secure overhand grip and establish a comfortable shoulder position. Pull by driving the elbows down as the chest rises toward the bar. Pause at the highest controlled point, then lower until the arms extend without dropping suddenly or losing the shoulder position.

Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
