Push-Ups - Close Triceps Position
The Close Triceps Push-Up uses a narrower hand position to increase the elbow-extension demand. The triceps provide the main effort while the chest and shoulders continue to assist.
Training context
Why Close-Grip Push-Ups Can Be Useful
This variation provides direct triceps-focused pressing without requiring external resistance. It can be progressed through added repetitions, slower control, or an elevated-foot position.
The hands do not need to touch. An excessively narrow position can create wrist discomfort and cause the elbows to flare.
Technique overview
Keep the elbows close without forcing them inward
Place the hands slightly inside shoulder width and form a stable plank. Lower the torso while allowing the elbows to track near the sides. Press through the palms until the arms extend, keeping the shoulders away from the ears and the hips aligned with the torso.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
