Exercise guide
Rear Leg Raises
Rear Leg Raises are performed from hands and knees by extending one leg behind the body. Although the metadata lists the quadriceps, the movement described primarily uses hip extension and commonly involves the glutes and hamstrings.
Training context
Keeping Rear Leg Raises Controlled
The movement should come from the hip while the pelvis remains mostly level. Lifting the leg higher by arching the lower back changes the exercise and may create unnecessary discomfort.
This is an active mobility or strength drill rather than a passive quadriceps stretch. Use a small range until the trunk can remain stable.
Technique overview
Extend the leg without rotating the pelvis
Begin on hands and knees with the trunk supported. Extend one leg backward while gradually straightening the knee and keeping the hips facing the floor. Stop before the lower back arches or the pelvis opens, return to the starting position, and repeat on the other side.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
