Exercise guide

Reverse Band Bench Press

The Reverse Band Bench Press uses bands anchored above the bar to reduce the effective load near the chest. Band assistance decreases as the bar rises, allowing heavier top-end pressing.

Training context

Before Adding Reverse Band Bench Press

Both bands must be identical, centered, and attached to rated anchor points. Uneven band lengths or off-center anchors can pull the bar sideways during the lift.

Reverse-band load cannot be compared directly with a standard bench press unless the band type, anchor height, and bar weight remain the same.

Technique overview

Keep the bar centered beneath the bands

Set the bench and bar directly beneath the anchor points and confirm equal tension on both sides. Establish a stable bench position, unrack without losing the shoulders, and lower the bar to the chosen touch point. Pause, press evenly to lockout, and rerack under control.

Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
