Exercise guide
Reverse Band Power Squat
The Reverse Band Power Squat uses overhead bands to assist the lower portion of a wide-stance barbell squat. Assistance decreases as the lifter rises, increasing the effective resistance toward lockout.
Training context
Muscles Used in the Reverse Band Power Squat
The quadriceps, glutes, hamstrings, and adductors extend the hips and knees, while the calves and lower back help maintain position. The wide stance may increase hip and adductor involvement.
The band setup must remain centered and equal. Stance width and depth should be based on the lifter's available hip position rather than forcing vertical shins or a specific powerlifting style.
Technique overview
Keep the feet planted and the band pull vertical
Set the bar directly beneath equal overhead bands and take a stable stance. Descend by bending the hips and knees while keeping the knees aligned with the feet. Reach the selected depth, then drive through the floor and stand without allowing the bar to drift toward either anchor.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
