Exercise guide

Reverse Barbell Preacher Curls

The Reverse Barbell Preacher Curl combines a palms-down EZ-bar grip with upper-arm support on a preacher bench. The biceps assist, while the brachialis, brachioradialis, and forearms contribute strongly.

Training context

Muscles Worked by Reverse Preacher Curls

The pronated grip reduces the mechanical advantage of the biceps compared with a palms-up curl and increases the demand on the forearms and other elbow flexors.

The supported bottom position can place substantial tension on the elbows. Avoid forcing a hard lockout or allowing the bar to drop into the stretch.

Technique overview

Keep the arms supported through the return

Place the upper arms firmly on the preacher pad and hold the EZ-bar with a comfortable pronated grip. Curl without lifting the arms from the pad, pause briefly, and lower slowly to a controlled extended position. Keep the wrists aligned throughout.

Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
