Reverse Triceps Bench Press
The Reverse Triceps Bench Press uses a shoulder-width supinated grip to press a barbell from the chest. The triceps provide substantial elbow-extension force, with the chest and shoulders assisting.
Training context
Why Use a Reverse-Grip Bench Press?
The underhand grip changes the elbow path and may shift how the pressing muscles contribute. It is a specialized variation rather than a necessary replacement for close-grip bench pressing.
Unracking and reracking are more difficult with the palms facing backward. Use a spotter, secure safeties, and a load that can be controlled without changing the grip.
Technique overview
Keep the bar balanced over the wrists
Lie with the upper back and feet firmly supported and take an even supinated grip. Have the bar handed out when possible, then lower it toward the middle or lower chest with the elbows tracking near the torso. Press evenly to arm's length and rerack only after the bar is stable.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
