Exercise guide
Side Standing Long Jump
The Side Standing Long Jump is a two-foot lateral power exercise. The quadriceps, glutes, hamstrings, and calves create the jump and absorb the landing.
Training context
Keeping the Lateral Jump Controlled
Distance matters only when the athlete can land without extra hops, twisting, or collapsing toward one side. Use a clear floor area and practice both directions.
Low repetition sets allow each jump to begin from a fully reset stance. Fatigue should not determine the landing position.
Technique overview
Jump sideways and land on both feet
Begin in an athletic stance and shift slightly toward the jumping side. Extend through the hips, knees, and ankles while using the arms to assist. Land facing forward on both feet with the knees and hips bent, then regain balance before repeating.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
