Squat with Bands
The Squat with Bands adds tension that increases as the bar rises. The quadriceps are listed as primary, while the glutes, hamstrings, adductors, calves, and lower back also support the movement.
Training context
Who May Find Banded Barbell Squats Useful?
The variation is generally used by experienced lifters who want accommodating resistance or faster intent through the upper part of the squat. The total challenge includes both bar weight and changing band tension.
Use proper band pegs or anchors that cannot lift, slide, or release. Both bands should match in length and tension, and the setup should be logged with the bar load.
Technique overview
Keep band tension even through the full squat
Anchor the bands symmetrically and confirm that they track vertically beneath the sleeves. Unrack into a stable stance, descend under control while maintaining full-foot pressure, and stand without allowing the bar to shift toward one side. Rerack carefully because the bands remain tensioned near the top.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
