Standing Dumbbell Triceps Extension
The Standing Dumbbell Triceps Extension holds one dumbbell overhead with both hands. The triceps extend the elbows while the torso and shoulders stabilize the load.
Training context
Keeping the Overhead Extension Controlled
Use a secure grip around the upper end of the dumbbell and make sure the plates or locking mechanism are intact. Heavy dumbbells can be difficult to move safely into and out of position.
The elbows may angle slightly outward if that is more comfortable. Avoid forcing them tightly together.
Technique overview
Move at the elbows without arching the back
Stand firmly with the dumbbell supported overhead in both hands. Bend the elbows to lower it behind the head through a comfortable range, then extend the arms using the triceps. Keep the ribs controlled and finish the set before the grip or torso becomes unstable.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
