Standing Long Jump
The Standing Long Jump is a horizontal plyometric drill that uses the quadriceps, glutes, hamstrings, and calves to project the body forward. The landing is part of the repetition and should remain controlled.
Training context
Benefits of the Standing Long Jump
The drill develops horizontal power and provides a simple performance measure when the start line and landing method remain consistent. It can also be used in short, low-volume power sessions.
Reaching the feet far forward should not come at the cost of falling backward or collapsing on landing. Measure only jumps that finish under control.
Technique overview
Jump for distance and land with balance
Begin in a partial squat and swing the arms backward. Drive through the hips and legs while swinging the arms forward, then bring the feet ahead for landing. Bend the hips and knees to absorb impact and stabilize before measuring the jump.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
