Exercise guide
Tire Flip
The Tire Flip is a strongman movement that begins with a powerful leg and hip drive and finishes with the tire being pushed over. The quadriceps provide the primary effort, with extensive support from the glutes, hamstrings, calves, back, grip, shoulders, chest, traps, and triceps.
Training context
Setup Cues for the Tire Flip
Tire size, tread, weight, and surface all affect the movement. Inspect the tire and clear enough space for it to land without striking people, equipment, or uneven ground.
This is not a conventional deadlift. The chest and shoulders drive into the tire while the legs extend, and the hands must transition before the tire becomes too vertical to control.
Technique overview
Drive the tire up before pushing it over
Grip securely beneath the tread and position the feet far enough back to lean the chest into the tire. Extend the hips and knees to drive it upward rather than attempting to curl it with the arms. Step forward as it rises, change the hand position, and push it through the final turn. Move clear of the landing path and reset only after the tire settles.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
