Triceps Pushdown
The Triceps Pushdown is a cable exercise that isolates elbow extension. The triceps straighten the arms while the upper arms remain close to the torso and the attachment travels toward the thighs.
Training context
Using the Triceps Pushdown in a Workout
The pushdown works well as focused triceps training after larger presses or as part of a direct arm session. Different bars can change wrist comfort, but the upper-arm position and elbow movement should remain consistent.
Use a load that allows the cable to return without lifting the elbows or pulling the torso forward. Record the attachment used along with the load and repetitions.
Technique overview
Keep the elbows beside the torso
Stand close enough to the high pulley to control the attachment without leaning heavily into it. Keep the upper arms still as the elbows extend and the bar travels toward the thighs. Pause briefly, then allow the forearms to rise under control. Stop the set when the elbows drift forward or the torso begins driving the weight down.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
