Exercise guide
Triceps Stretch
The Triceps Stretch places one arm overhead with the elbow bent and the hand reaching behind the head. The triceps are the primary area, while the lats may also be affected by the overhead arm position.
Training context
Setup Cues for the Triceps Stretch
The elbow should move into position gradually without being pulled forcefully behind the head. Shoulder mobility determines how far the arm can comfortably travel.
Keep the ribs and torso relaxed rather than arching the lower back to create more overhead range. Hold a mild stretch and compare both sides without forcing symmetry.
Technique overview
Guide the elbow gently
Raise one arm overhead and bend the elbow so the hand reaches behind the head. Use the opposite hand to support the elbow and apply light downward pressure. Keep the neck relaxed and avoid pulling the arm into a painful shoulder position. Release slowly before changing sides.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
