Underhand Cable Pulldowns
Underhand Cable Pulldowns use a close, palms-up grip to train the lats through a vertical pulling motion. The biceps, middle back, and shoulders assist as the bar moves toward the upper chest and returns overhead.
Training context
Using Underhand Cable Pulldowns in a Workout
The underhand grip generally increases elbow flexion and gives the biceps a noticeable supporting role. Adjust the thigh pad securely and choose a grip width that allows the wrists and elbows to remain comfortable.
Keep the torso angle consistent rather than turning the exercise into a cable row. Record the attachment, grip width, load, and range when comparing sessions.
Technique overview
Drive the elbows down beside the torso
Sit securely beneath the thigh pad and begin with the arms extended without shrugging into the shoulders. Pull the bar toward the upper chest by driving the elbows down and back. Pause without leaning farther behind the cable, then guide the bar upward until the lats are lengthened. Stop if wrist discomfort or excessive torso movement changes the pull.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
