V-Bar Pullup

The V-Bar Pullup is a close neutral-grip pull-up variation. The lats provide the main pulling effort, while the biceps, middle back, and shoulders assist as the torso rises toward the handles.

Training context

V-Bar Pullup Explained

A neutral grip can provide a strong pulling position, but the attachment must be designed and secured for hanging bodyweight. Purpose-built neutral-grip handles are preferable to an improvised attachment placed over a standard bar.

Count repetitions only while the body remains controlled and the same range can be repeated. Stop if the attachment moves, twists, or changes the hand position.

Technique overview

Use only a secure neutral-grip attachment

Begin from a controlled hang using handles that are rated and secured for pull-ups. Drive the elbows down as the chest rises toward the grip, keeping the legs and torso from swinging. Pause at the highest controlled point, then lower until the arms are extended without dropping into the shoulders. Do not use a loose V-bar balanced over another bar.

Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
