Exercise guide
Weighted Squat
This Weighted Squat variation uses a belt with the load hanging between elevated foot supports. The quadriceps provide the primary effort, while the glutes, hamstrings, and calves assist through the squat.
Training context
Using the Weighted Squat in a Workout
The elevated platforms must be designed and positioned to support standing and squatting safely. A purpose-built belt squat machine or stable platform is preferable to improvised benches.
The hanging load should clear the floor throughout the repetition without swinging into the legs. Record the belt, platform height, stance, and load when comparing sessions.
Technique overview
Use a stable platform and centered load
Stand on secure elevated supports with the belt load hanging centrally beneath the hips. Keep pressure through the full feet as the hips and knees bend together. Descend only while the platforms, belt, and load remain stable, then stand by extending the knees and hips. Do not perform the exercise on narrow or movable benches.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
