Wide-Grip Lat Pulldown
The Wide-Grip Lat Pulldown uses an overhand grip wider than the shoulders. The lats provide the primary pulling effort, while the biceps, middle back, and shoulders assist through the movement.
Training context
Muscles Worked by the Wide-Grip Lat Pulldown
A wider grip changes the arm path and often shortens the available range compared with a neutral or underhand attachment. Choose a width that allows the wrists and shoulders to remain comfortable.
The bar does not need to touch the chest if doing so requires excessive leaning or shoulder movement. Record the grip width and attachment used.
Technique overview
Pull toward the upper chest without leaning back
Secure the thighs beneath the pad and begin with the arms extended overhead. Drive the elbows down and slightly back as the bar approaches the upper chest. Keep the torso angle steady and stop at the lowest controlled point. Guide the bar upward until the lats are lengthened without allowing the weight stack to pull the shoulders abruptly.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
