Exercise guide
Band Good Morning
The Band Good Morning is a hip-hinge exercise performed by standing on a looped resistance band with the opposite side positioned behind the upper back or neck area. As you stand, the band provides increasing resistance. The hamstrings and glutes drive the hip extension while the lower back helps maintain the torso position.
Training context
Who may find the Band Good Morning useful?
This exercise can be useful for practicing the hip hinge without loading a barbell. It may also be included as hamstring and glute accessory work or as part of a powerlifting warm-up.
Band tension increases as you stand taller, so the top of the movement may feel harder than the bottom. Make sure the band is intact and positioned securely before beginning.
Technique overview
Push the hips back
Stand on the band with your feet secure and place the upper portion behind your shoulders. Keep a small bend in the knees, brace your torso, and push the hips backward until you feel tension in the hamstrings. Drive the hips forward to stand tall. Avoid rounding the back or turning the movement into a squat.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
