Barbell Incline Bench Press - Medium Grip
The Barbell Incline Bench Press is performed on an angled bench and trains the chest, shoulders, and triceps. Compared with a flat bench press, the incline generally increases the involvement of the shoulders and upper portion of the chest. A medium grip keeps the forearms in a practical pressing position for many lifters.
Training context
Muscles worked by the Incline Bench Press
The chest remains the primary focus, while the front shoulders and triceps help press the bar. A steeper bench angle usually shifts more of the effort toward the shoulders.
Bench angle, grip width, touch point, and rack height should remain consistent when comparing sets. Small changes to the incline can noticeably change the movement.
Technique overview
Lower the bar toward the upper chest
Set your upper back against the incline bench and establish the grip before unracking. Lower the bar under control toward the upper chest while keeping the wrists stacked over the forearms. Press upward without bouncing or allowing the shoulders to roll forward. Return the bar securely to the rack after the final repetition.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
