Exercise guide
Box Skip
The Box Skip is a traveling plyometric drill performed across a series of spaced boxes. One leg drives the body upward, the foot contacts the box, and the opposite knee contributes to the next leap. The hamstrings, glutes, quadriceps, calves, and inner and outer hip muscles all assist.
Training context
What makes the Box Skip different?
Unlike a standard box jump, this drill continues forward and relies on coordinated single-leg contacts. Height, distance, and rhythm all need to remain controlled.
Box spacing should match the athlete's ability rather than an arbitrary distance. Each platform must be stable, aligned, and surrounded by a clear landing area.
Technique overview
Control the box contact before leaving it
Approach the first box in a staggered stance and drive upward from the rear leg. Place the working foot securely on the box, then use the opposite knee and leg to continue forward. Land between boxes with control and reset when needed. Reduce the spacing or speed when foot placement becomes uncertain.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
