Exercise guide
Butterfly
The Butterfly Machine is a seated chest fly exercise. The arms begin apart and move inward against the machine's resistance. The supported torso reduces the need to balance the body and lets the chest control the closing and opening movement.
Training context
Who may find the Butterfly Machine useful?
The machine can be used as direct chest work after pressing exercises or as a main movement when a guided path is preferred. Different machine designs may use handles, elbow pads, or both.
Seat height should place the upper arms in a comfortable position near chest or shoulder level. The starting range should create a manageable stretch without pulling the shoulders too far backward.
Technique overview
Keep the back against the pad
Adjust the seat and starting position before selecting a working load. Keep your back on the pad as you bring the handles or pads together. Pause briefly, then allow the arms to open slowly. Stop the return before the shoulders roll forward or feel forced into an excessive stretch.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
