Exercise guide
Cable Chest Press
The Cable Chest Press is a seated pressing exercise in which two handles move forward from chest level. The chest performs most of the work while the shoulders and triceps assist. Unlike a barbell, each handle can move independently and remains connected to cable tension.
Training context
How is the Cable Chest Press different?
Cables provide resistance during both the press and the return. Each side works independently, which can make differences in control between the arms easier to notice.
Machine seat position, cable height, and handle path determine the pressing angle. Keep those settings consistent when tracking the exercise.
Technique overview
Press both handles on the same path
Sit firmly against the support with the handles near chest level and elbows bent. Press forward without letting one shoulder move ahead of the other. Pause with the arms extended, then return slowly while keeping tension on the cables. Avoid allowing the handles to pull the shoulders far behind the torso.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
