Cable Hamstring Curl

The Cable Hamstring Curl is a standing single-leg exercise performed with an ankle cuff attached to a low pulley. The hamstrings bend the knee and draw the heel toward the glutes, while the calves and glutes assist with movement and balance.

Training context

What is the Cable Hamstring Curl?

The exercise isolates one leg at a time without requiring a dedicated leg-curl machine. Holding a support allows balance to remain separate from the hamstring movement.

Pulley height and body position should allow the cable to pull from behind the ankle without rubbing against the other leg.

Technique overview

Keep the thigh pointing downward

Attach the cuff securely and stand facing the machine. Hold a support and bend the working knee to bring the heel upward while keeping the thigh mostly still. Pause briefly, then straighten the leg slowly. Avoid lifting the knee forward or allowing the weight stack to pull the foot down abruptly.

Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
