Calf-Machine Shoulder Shrug
The Calf-Machine Shoulder Shrug uses the shoulder pads of a standing calf machine to load the traps. Instead of raising the heels, the lifter keeps the legs still and elevates the shoulders toward the ears. The machine removes the need to hold a bar or dumbbells.
Training context
Muscles worked by the Calf-Machine Shrug
The traps elevate the shoulder girdle against the machine pads. The legs and torso provide a stable base but should not contribute by bending or bouncing.
Machine fit matters because the pads must rest securely above the shoulders without pressing against the neck. Adjust the platform or pad height before adding weight.
Technique overview
Move the shoulders without bending the knees
Stand upright beneath the pads with your arms relaxed at your sides. Raise both shoulders toward the ears, pause briefly, and lower under control. Keep the knees, hips, and elbows still. Avoid rolling the shoulders or using a calf raise to lift the machine.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
