Chest And Front Of Shoulder Stretch
The Chest and Front of Shoulder Stretch uses a light dowel, body bar, or broomstick held with a wide grip. The arms lift overhead and may continue slightly behind the head as mobility allows. The movement is often called a shoulder pass-through.
Training context
Areas involved in the dowel stretch
The chest and front of the shoulders lengthen as the arms travel overhead. Grip width strongly affects the difficulty, with a wider grip requiring less shoulder range.
A light, rigid dowel should be used rather than a loaded bar. The goal is smooth mobility, not forcing the hands as far behind the body as possible.
Technique overview
Widen the grip before forcing the range
Stand tall and hold the dowel in front of you with a wide overhand grip. Raise it overhead with straight but not forcefully locked elbows. Continue behind the head only while the shoulders remain comfortable and the ribs stay controlled. Reverse the path slowly and widen the hands if the movement feels restricted.
Treat this as an overview and use a range, pace, and setup you can control.
